What the papers say: Liverpool play acting costs Arsenal again

We're all about making your life easier here at Arsenal Addict, where our team of Addicted editors spend every spare second scrutinising news coverage to make sure you're kept up to date with what's going on at our beloved club. So if you don't have the time to trawl through the UK's national newspapers for Arsenal stories, be sure to check back here where we'll do the work for you.

The Sun - Adebayor fury at red card
EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR has blasted Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa for falling as if he had “put a knife in him.”

The Mirror - Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool: Rafa Benitez's side may live to regret dropped points
THEY MAY still end up as the Christmas No.1, although that is no longer in Liverpool’s own hands. But Anfield’s hopes of a triumphant title Hallelujah will require Rafa Benitez’s men to do far more over the next five months than they have over the past few weeks.

The Daily Mail - It's a 'knife' crime: Arbeloa went down as if stabbed, says dismissed Adebayor
Emmanuel Adebayor accused Liverpool's Alvaro Arbeloa of going down like he had been 'knifed' after the Arsenal striker was sent off at the Emirates during yesterday's draw

The Daily Express - KEANE’S KNOCKOUT BLOW
IF this is really the result that finally does for Arsenal’s fading title hopes then Arsene Wenger will once more be left cursing the men from Merseyside.

The Daily Star - 'ARBELOA WENT DOWN LIKE HE WAS KNIFED'
EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR last night accused Alvaro Arbeloa of deliberately getting him sent off in a hot-tempered clash at the Emirates.

The Times - Arsene Wenger furious at Emmanuel Adebayor red card as Robbie Keane earns a point
Arsène Wenger branded Howard Webb’s decision to dismiss Emmanuel Adebayor “a joke” last night and accused the referee of costing Arsenal two points in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

The Independent - Reds afraid to win, says Wenger
Only once he had finished bemoaning the injustice of Emmanuel Adebayor's red card did Arsène Wenger delivered a painful truth for Liverpool. The Arsenal manager contemplated how his 10 men had managed to hold out for a draw for the best part of 30 minutes and offered an explanation that cuts to the heart of Rafael Benitez's side. Maybe, pondered Wenger, yesterday's opponents were too "scared" to go for broke.

The Daily Telegraph - Ten-man Arsenal earn draw with Liverpool but Cesc Fabregas picks up worrying knock
The day was supposed to be about giving. But Arsenal took the ‘Be a Gooner, be a giver’ campaign for the Teenage Cancer Trust too literally, offering their title challengers greater space and leverage in the race for the Premier League.

The Guardian - Arbeloa went down as if I'd knifed him, rages Adebayor as Gunners count losses
Emmanuel Adebayor accused Liverpool's Alvaro Arbeloa of acting "as if I put a knife in him", as he raged about his sending-off in Arsenal's 1–1 draw here in north London yesterday.

Humm.. Not really news analysis is it? It would have been good to hear what the papers thought of the action rather than just choosing reproduced versions of comments about the sending off...

"What the papers say: Liverpool play acting costs Arsenal again"

hmmmm i'm not convinced that even the papers are saying that there was "play acting"? the only place i've heard that is from wenger and adebayor

maybe he needs to stop going into tackles with a raised foot and leading with his arm? there are so many examples of (arsenal, chelsea, everyone) players going down clutching their faces without even being touched - in this incident, arbeloa got an elbow in the face...

I thought putting your studs over the ball usually gets you a yellow card - if he had connected then a straight red. As for leading with your elbow that's pretty much going to be a straight red more often than not. I think Adebayor should be praising the ref.

Docpep and Chris maybe Howard Webb shouldnt be allowed to ever officiate an Arsenal game agin. The bloke is beyond a joke....your slatting Adebayor for doing what most Liverpool players were doing all afternoon. #1 the first Adebayor foul didnt even warrant a booking. Lucas can commit 10/11 fouls all afternoon then get only then get booked.
Howard Webb hasnt liked The Arsenal since he got hauled over the coals for being the Lino that got Sol Campbell wrongly sent off back in 2003.

Where the pair of you even at the game - as your perspective of it beggers belief!

Liverpool are cheats and I sincerely hope they dont win the league as that would be an even bigger travesty!

Yes I was at the game

Lucas was presumably booked for persistent fouling - none of the individual fouls were obvious cards (unlike adebayors' foot-raised/elbow-first combo)

The ref wasn't great yesterday, but it wasn't an outrageous decision by Webb by any means - all the fuss thats being made is ridiculous, its just a smokescreen by wenger/adebayor to hide the fact they weren;'t really good enough to win on the day

(having said that i'm disapointed that neither gerrard or el zhar took eheir v good chances to score)

I'm neither a Liverpool or Arsenal fan but for the Arsenal manger and players having a go at the Liverpool right back for play acting and overreacting was hilarious as a certain Arsenal right back, Mr Eboue, is without a doubt the worst play actor I have ever seen in the history of the premier league.
