Should Arsenal sell Adabayor to Chelsea?

Ask any Gooner who would be number one on their list of players to leave this summer and Manu Adebayor wouldn’t be far from the top of the list.

A wide-eyed, lumbering and determined player when he arrived, the Togo forward has turned into Billy Big Bollocks, living on his short-lived reputation for scoring goals rather than trying to maintain his levels of excellence.

He doesn’t even seem to want to deny that his sole motivation now is to make enough money to live well for the rest of his life.

Speaking to the BBC recently, Adebayor said: “You are talking about in life and it is about money. When we are young, of course we played because we loved the game, we play because we were passionate about the game. If it is not because of money, what am I going to be playing for Arsenal for? If it is not because of money I don’t think I would go to Arsenal to play. I would stay in my country, I would stay in Lome where everyone loves me.”

So there it is, a footballer not afraid to admit he is all about the cash, not the glory.

Arséne Wenger could not have sold Adebayor last summer. Losing Gilberto, Flamini, Hleb and Adebayor would have been a disaster from a PR point of view, but in hindsight, it would have been the right move.

No one sings the African’s name anymore, no one likes him.

If he’s not getting offside, he’s wandering around the pitch showing the lack of determination required to really make a difference at the highest level.

It says much for Wenger’s thinking that against Ch*vski, he brought on Nic Bendtner before he brought on Adebayor, so much has the latter fallen from favour.

That Wenger would admit he would be willing to do business with the Ch*vs underlines that, though he has some affection for Adebayor, the time for a parting of the ways has come.

I’m not bothered if he goes to the Ch*vs. One Addict said to me today that he fears Ade would become an immense player, more like the one we saw last season.

Others have hinted that maybe he has simply had an off-year and a good start to the next campaign will put this rotten year behind him.

I don’t think so, much as I would always want to give Arsenal players the benefit of the doubt. I think he believes, without the talent, that he is Thierry Henry's natural successor, and his manner also imitates Titi's brooding in his last days at the club.

I fear a new club is the best for us. If we could get £30m or even £25m, we could buy a great replacement (Huntelaar, whose unhappy at Madrid perhaps?) AND a centre-back such as Hangeland or similar.

Farewell Ade, on too many levels, you just weren’t man or player enough to be worthy of The Arsenal.

Good post and agree with you 100%. When I first thought about him joining the Chav$ I was horrified, but in retrospect I don't give a shit. If he went there then he may have a good season next year, but ultimately he will end up as he has here.

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for whoring himself around after last season, but the fact that he's shown how disinterested he's been this year means his time as a Gooner should come to an end!

Good post!!

Ade could improve and play better at Chavski but whatever happens in my oppinion he will not be the same level as Drogba has reached! Drogba is so often unplayable!!
Selling them Ade will not improve them at all and will prob help us close the gap!!
As long as we put the money to good use!! Huntelaar!! please Arsene!!!

As much as I hate to say it... a swap with Drogba... it would improve our team as a whole!!!

I have heard tho that Wenger is planning to sell ade for any offer over 20 mil but WILL NOT be buying a striker as he wants to play Arshavin as 2nd striker behind the 1 of RVP or Eduardo... So looks like we may end up with the money we need to rebuild the df and mf..

I agree, Ade has some talent, but if you ask most arsenal fans, i dont just think they prefer RvP, Arshavin and Eduardo on popularity levels, i think they are ALL more talented. If we get some decent cash for Ade which im sure we will as he is outrageous over-rated across europe, then we could replace him with Huntelaar, or my prefered choice of David Villa (cant see us getting him though).

But to be honest, as much as Wenger has been critised but not replacing flamini, i dont even think it would be that terrible if Ade wasnt replaced by a big name anyway, as if all forwards are fit, i think i would probably start Arshavin and Eduardo up front? RvP is brilliant at times, fantastic even, but its too inconsistant and doesnt score enough goals. Hes a massive fans favourite is RvP..but i do think that Arshavin and Eduardo would get us more goals.

Sell abroad if he is to be sold. That way , even if he were to improve , which I would no doubt believe he would, his impact would be potentially Champions League stage , on us. We're fine for Strikers , so any money made on the deal should go else where (my account number is 123456789 PL). One or two backs might be no harm, however I cant believe how much , and it is not just pointed at arsenal players but rather at all pro's, they get paid but cant play only in one place - its like buying a car with 5 gears and a reverse and not being able to use only one gear in it. Would you spend 100k on that car?

I think Adebayor can improve next season if Wenger really sits him down and has a proper talk with him however i have no problems with selling him cos i believe the money could be used to improve our squad not necessarily our forward line because we have enough great quality forwards and while i think we have world class 1ST CHOICE center backs their replacements are not as up to the task as they are hence the amount of goals we leaked when Gallas got injured and while Song could be very good in there in the future for now we need him in midfield and maybe another DM to help out Song however while i wasn't too sure about Song earlier over the last half of the season i have seen enough to convince me he is very competent in that position. It's very easy saying all this as a supporter though implementing is a lot tougher e.g. what CB out there is good enough that is not already in a big team but Wenger does have the eye for the great player so as for me the future of our great club depends a lot on what Wenger does in the summer one thing is for sure he must buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny how some Arsenal fans think Ade isnt good enough for Arsenal but turn a blind eye towards RVP. Is it all to do with football?

hey wenger
adabayor is a very leathal striker as much as you may think its best for the club. belive me when i say you are make a mistake by sell him. all adabayor need is good support in the front line most of the time he is all alone. which has affected his performance. wenger you build good players infact great players and you sell them to other clubs at a good price you make a lot of money by selling the players. But it's time you make very good use of what you have. it's time you brought some silver to the club and by not selling any of your players let them stick togather this coming season belive me they will do wonders.
