Should Arsenal sell Robin van Persie?
By Avenell Dave
There is no doubt that Robin an Persie is a world class striker.
Who can forget his cut in from the right and fierce shot against Blackburn at Highbury years ago; his volley at Charlton that should have been goal of the season, or his double at the home of the Ch*vs.
Having moved to the number 10 shirt this season, RvP has announced firmly that he wants to be the new Dennis Bergkamp – a Dutch master who uses his trickery and that inherent Dutch footballing wit to carve open defences.
RvP has never been blessed with blistering pace like Theirry Henry, but that has never been a problem, and it means that he has the capacity to go on for perhaps another ten years, just as his predecessor in the number 10 shirt.
There were early concerns that RvP may have a discipline problem – but he seems to have come through that and is now as fair and sportsmanlike a player as you could wish for.
But the injuries that he suffers make him nothing more than a luxury player and one who we cannot rely on for an extended period.
I read one Addict say on Twitter recently that RvP has never played for than 14 consecutive games for us due to his niggling injuries.
While he didn’t score in the World Cup finals, it is so pitifully predictable that he would get injured soon after his return to Arsenal and the fact that he is out possibly until November now underlines how little we can rely on him.
But the bigger question here is whether RvP is a luxury we can afford.
Arsenal are undoubtedly on a tight budget, with more money going on the larger youth team squads than on top top class players that can win us big matches.
We have sold Manu Adebaywhore and Eduardo in the past two seasons and signed Maraoune Chamakh, who looks like a decent team player, if not a prolific goalscorer.
But with RvP and Nick Bendtner injured, it puts a lot of pressure on the Moroccan when he has yet to become fully versed in the ways of the Premier League.
Is Carlos Vela up to it? Arsene Wenger doesn’t give him enough of a run to show what he can do.
What about Benik Afobe or Chuks Aneke or JET? Neither of them can be expected to perform at the top level yet and whether we get through the Carling Crap match against T*tt*nh*m and give them an extended run to get used to proper football remains to be seen.
But if Wenger is to persist with having what is in many respects a small squad, particularly if you consider how many raw youngsters are in our team, surely those who are considered senior have to be reliable both in terms of performance and fitness.
I’m not saying that we should vet players to ensure they have not had any significant injuries, but RvP’s record is seriously concerning and never improves from year to year. Can we really build a team around players who feature in no more than half our games each year?
A fit RvP is something we all love to see in full flight, but is it time to cash in and sign someone more likely to last the distance as we try and break our trophy drought?

yes
This post is utter gash. Why stop there, let's bin another few first teamers, then we could make it to mid table and make the suicide brigade happy with their |I told you sos
We could sell him for medical research!
no
no no no no no. NO.
HE scored in the world cup ,against songs cameroon i think.
no.
This post is so ill-thought out, so naive, so unintelligent I don't think I can bothered to comment after all.....
YES
WHy do people write some blog just for the sake of writing.
Who gave such an Idiotic idea of Selling RVP. He is the one that represents the Club.
If there is some-1 who is sincere and Loyal to the Club,it is him and not some1 with some Barca DNA.
We might as well sell Walcott, Rosicky, Nasri, Djourou and Diaby as well shouldn't we? Get behind players each injury is different and based on luck its not like RVP goes out there trying to get injured or goes 100% every game he didnt look right in the world cup or at the start of the season we need him FULLY fit.
and replace with hith who exactly!!!!
I read this arsenal site often and never comment. Slate Van P all you want, but get your facts straight he did in fact score at the world cup
Hell.............to ................the ......................NO. NO way I love Robin Van Persie
so we have a relatively small squad.? in attack, there is VP, bendy, cham, vela, walcott, arshavin, how many should we have then?
Why should we sell van Persie, he's a very good player, but unfortunately injury prone which is a problem. But I wouldn't to see him sold, and anyway who would we replace him with, because whoever we were linked with the price would sky rocket and only the likes of Man City or Chelsea or possible Man U would be in a position to snap them up. The rest of the team have to show that we can cope without van Persie and Walcott for the time being and let them recover properly before rushing them back too soon.
Even asking the question beggars belief
i think we should replace him with a new striker because sadly he is a space in this new squad system and its not once or twice, its like 2 and a half years injured over the last 5 years, you win nothing with your best striker injured
YES. But why nobody has expressed any interest?
Selling RVP is very wrong and ill-thought-out. Anyway, Arsenal do not bring in many experienced players so whiy sell one of the few world class players we have, and a loyal one to boot. If you feel we are not getting our monies worth, sell Bendtner and use the proceeds to buy a decent striker. All we have to do is to plan our team without RVP, and whenever he is fit see him as a new signing. Afterall Rosicky has suffered worse injuries, and we continued to plan without him. He is now having a healthy run in the team and is like a new signing.
loyal? who would want him unless he wa free and willing to take a massive pay cut or pay as youplay deal
Anti-arsenal
if robin signed a pay as you play deal he would need to get a part time job to put juice in the lambo
RVP scored one goal at the world cup - big deal. For the most part, when RVP was in a decent shooting position, prize c**ts like robben and Sneijder chose to shoot or lay it to one of their other sycophant mates. Much like Theo suffers when he plays for engerlund and has to put up with the chavving men's club run by gerrard, mickey, and terry.
No no no no no.......oh no
Yes, yes, yes. RVP is shit. Sell his ass to some unsuspecting club and let them deal with his glass ankle bullshit. Chamakh, once he starts dribbling defenders, will be 10 tines more effective than Rest In Pieces. As a great reggae artist once proclaimed "pass the Dutchie pon the left hand side"
I think its time Arsenal fans ask them this why do our players get injured so much more then rest of the teams
jonas, you sure your name aint sherlock?
How much is he worth £8. 12 mill he is so injury prone Arsenal probably couldn't give him away
and he has a face like a horse
What is with all the over the top criticism?, looks like the AKB's will use any excuse to have a rant at someone. Great player though he is we cannot rely on him and should replace him as he is 27 now and his injuries will probably become more frequent. The only problem is Wenger would probably replace him with a 15 yr old from Albania..
The 1st comment is spot on.
This is a shite blog, trying too hard to be contraversial. And failing fucking miserably.
The author is a thick twat with the brains or a retarded gerbil.
TIME TO RIGHT CLICK ON THE NAME AND HIDE THIS SORRY MESS FROM NEWSNOW
Oh and I love th fact that anyone who doesnt go along with an over the top knee jerk, prepubescent idea is an AKB!
Classic.
Anyone using the term "AKB" as a form of abuse is a retard, with no mond of their own, you are a brain dead sheep. Gofollow the herd you plastic
i agree, were all akb's for saying we should sell van lol
How exactly is it over the top or knee jerk?, look at RVP's record since joining us, we need players who play 30+ games a season, do you really think he is going to improve his injury record in the later part of his career?.
Too many blinkered supporters out there thats for sure. I like many Arsenal supporters think that Van Persie is the Mutts Nuts and would not wish to see him sold but he gets injured way too much and its a fair point. When he was after a new contract Wenger should have given him £50k a week and a £20k appearance fee then maybe he would warm up properly before traning or matches. Maybe its just me but it seems Arsenal's injuries seem to have got worse since Gary Lewin left!
Dont think we should sell him as he is now widely considered world class and a very loyal player...
HOWEVER i dont agree with people abusing and calling the article bollocks, he is very injury prone and it doesnt matter how good you are or how much you love the club... if his injury record persists and he continues to fall short of a world class goal count at the end of each season the question will be seriously raised again... Just a bit early i think.
Yes we should sell Robin, don't get me wrong he is a great player with a deadly left foot but we do not get enough games from him. Injury after injury and most of the time it's not even from a tackle. What is the point in having a great player playing 15-20 games a season if we are lucky and the rest of the season in the gym getting over another injury. I still love him tho.
Spot on Lee, we are a football club not a charity, I would love him to have been the next Bergkamp/Henry but it is not going to happen, he has the body of an 80yr old.
Of course he is loyal to us - no one else would keep him with his injuries!!, there is no room for sentimentality if we want to win things.
How is RVP 'world class'? It's a term that gets bandied about meanginglessly. For sure he is a good player, has a cracking shot, but he's not a god like genius. I remember when he or his agent started muttering about moving on if 'arsenal didn't match his ambition'. That was after a season when he hardly played, yet collected his absurd wages all year. So, why be sentimental over one player, who is on a very good thing at Arsenal? As was pointed out at the time, he sustained his latest injury for leaving his foot trailing in a stupid tackle, so he is not the brightest spark in the box. Occasionally he can be genius, but those moments are so few and far between, he is not great value for money. So if he moved on, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
This is a ridiculous article. Basically RVP hasnt had a pre season for us and seeing as he has a history of long term injuries it is no suprise as to why he got injured partucularly against a side like blackburn!
You say this article is ridiculous but then go on to say its no suprise he got injured??.
He's been getting injured over and over since he joined, nothing to do with lack of pre-season, he missed most of last season..
I don't honestly see the case for keeping him.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is definitely a luxury we can afford to have. He had a pretty good season injury wise 2 seasons ago btw
Well, here's a question. What value do we set for RVP? He is, as you mentioned, almost always crocked. However, he understands the Arsenal way of football inside out.
A Barcelona or a Madrid would never want him, as they have enough and more fit strikers and would not need another. A mid table team in La Liga or the Premier League or Serie A would not pay much for him as just like us, they would know that RVP would play 25 games a season at most. Why pay top money for a player who is fit for half a season? Similar for the lower leagues.
So yes, you can sell him. You can cash in. But HOW MUCH WILL BE THE CASH?
Let me tell you. The cash will be around 10-15 million pounds. And with that cash, we will get a Johan Elmander. Excellent! You should replace Wenger, you know?
I would hate to see him leave on his day he is my favourite player to watch, but if he gets another long term injury this season after he comes back from this current injury, I think it is something that seriously would need to be considered.vHe might be better off, like Eduardo in a less physical league, Real were interest for around 35M (not that RVP was interested), if Wenger used that to buy Stekelenburg and Suarez, would they be better ... hmm
You are crazy!!! Sell Robin van Persie? You must be kinding?
Does Robin Van Persie play for Arsenall?
No doubt should be sold, highest tally until this year in a single season was 11, pathetic not good enough for arsenal, no one seems to realise he is not 27 anymore
